HISTORY AND TERRITORY
Attimis, land of castles
2641/5000
Attimis is halfway between Cividale and Tarcento, following the state road 356, situated on the amphitheater of the eastern piedmont, along the banks of the Malina torrent. The municipality in addition to the capital counts the fractions of Forame, Porzus, Subit and Racchiuso. It is a territory, that of Attimis, of notable historical and archaeological interest, in fact, in addition to the remains of the Upper and Lower castles and the Partistagno castle in the village of Faris, the Villa Strassoldo and the old Mill of the Counts of Attimis are evocative.
Many and well visible evidence of history are well kept in the Medieval Museum (open every Sunday), a traveling plexus that tells the daily life of the castles during the feudal era. You can not visit the town of Attimis without being enchanted by the small village of Porzus which, 700 meters above sea level, dominates the Friulian plain offering a panorama of extraordinary beauty. Porzus is known nationally for the mountain pastures of the massacre and for the Marian devotion to the Sanctuary of the Madonna (de Sesule) of the Falcetto, a continuous destination of devotional pilgrimages. Subit, from its 729 meters above sea level, is instead estimated for its environmental and naturalistic qualities recognized by the Region and registered by C.E. as areas to be protected.
The Thanner frescoes inside the church of San Silvestro pope a Racchiuso, or the prehistoric cave of the "Ciondar des Paganis" located above Borgo Poiana, are also of considerable value.
